The final program itinerary will be developed together with partner universities in Indonesia, influenced by the fields represented by participants in the program. A tentative itinerary will be shared with the selected participants during the pre-travel orientation sessions to be held online in early 2019.
It is expected that the program will visit the islands of Java, Bali, and West Timor, spending several days in each location. Tentative activities in each location include:
- In the city of Jakarta, we work with BINUS University, who will provide seminars and tours related to the history of Indonesia.
- In the city of Yogyakarta, Sanata Dharma University will develop a program of culture and language studies; tours to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Borobudur and the Prambanan temple compound; visits to K-12 schools; 20 hours of Indonesian language classes, as well as seminars and workshops on music, theatre, dance, and art.
- In Bali, Udayana University will provide seminars on the history, arts, and culture of Bali; a tour of the water temples and rice fields; workshops on Balinese music, art, dance, and drama; and seminars on the textiles of Indonesia, including ikat and batik.
- In West Timor, the program will focus on village life, with tours in the western region of the island related to ikat weaving, music and dance, and the region’s animist beliefs and traditions.
